The last thing that you are going to want is to go through the whole process of a legal proceeding to find out that the transcript wasn't kept properly. Certification will help prevent this from happening.

The other big thing that you are going to want to look at is making sure that the court reporters you use all use a standard format of keeping the record. There is nothing worse than having transcripts from different court reporters that use different formats. It makes it hard to read and hard to find what you are looking for. Making sure that all of your transcripts have a standardized format will make your life a lot easier. This is especially true if you are going to have to use more than one court reporter for the same legal proceeding.

Being able to find a court reporter who can meet your schedule is also going to be an issue. In general it isn't too hard to find one in the middle of the day but if you have a need for a court reporter at night, and it does happen, finding one can be a problem. There are companies who specialize in providing service on short notice who you may want to contact. If you are regularly going to have need for a court reporter outside of normal working hours your best option is usually to go with a larger company that has a whole staff of reporters so that there will always be somebody available when you need them.
